Beck's most recent musical experiment, entitled Record Club, is covering entire rock albums from that past. Having already taken on The Velvet Underground & Nico and Songs of Leonard Cohen, Becks most recent project is to redo Skip Spence's Oar. For this session, he invited Feist and members of Wilco to help perform a new version of "Weighted Down". Have you ever seen Nasty Nels Cline shred on an acoustic guitar? Of course you haven't, so here you go:

Sasquatch > Bonnaroo?

I can guarantee one thing: Sasquatch will not pull a Langerado.

A handful of big names overlap with Bonnaroo, but that's not a bad thing considering how far apart they are from each other: Sasquatch is in Washington state and Bonnaroo (lineup) is in Tennessee. Both still have more artists to add, but already it seems like both are upgraded from last year. I don't think Bonnaroo can be called a jam band festival anymore, but it's a wee bit more chill than its intensely indie counterpart. West Coast, start rounding up the troops.

Bonnaroo Announces 2009 Initial Lineup

The king of summer festivals is back on the beautiful 700-acre Manchester farm in June (11th-14th), and the announcement of (some of) the performers came this morning.

The lineup is packed full of big names and great accompanying artists. Metallica and Kanye are gone this year (YES!), and Phish is bringing back Bonnaroo as a jam band festival, doing two shows over the four days. It could use a dosage of hip-hop though, so hopefully that comes with the next announcement (last year I got front row for Lupe Fiasco and Talib Kweli followed - needless to say it was a highlight of the festival). Other than that, the lineup is spectacular. We'll let you know when more artists get announced.

See the whole thing at bonnaroo.com. Tickets go on sale Feb. 7. The first wave sold out already (before the artists were even announced), so the next price level is $234.50, then $249.50 once those sell out.

NYCTaper’s Top Recorded Concerts of 2008

So the guys over at NYCTaper are known for checking out sweet concerts in the New York City area and bringing their recording equipment along with them. I'm not exactly sure about the quality of all of the shows, but they have mentioned finding the perfect spot to stand in the crowd to get maximum recording potential.

Be sure to head over right now and check out their top concerts from this year. You'll be pleasantly surprised to find free downloads of amazing sets by bands like Deerhunter, of Montreal, Sigur Rós, The Mountain Goats, and even special gems like Wilco's twenty-seven song, eleven encore set from their appearance at McCarren Park Pool.

Just for all you wondering about the legal aspects of the site, they make sure to mention that "all recordings are posted with artist permission or artists with an existing pro-taping policy". Well there you have it.

Wilco to Make Colbert Stop on Tour

Jeff Tweedy and the boys have decided to make a swing by The Colbert Report this Thursday. Mr. Colbert seems to have some excellent taste in music, previously inviting on his show the likes of Feist, R.E.M., Apples in Stereo, the Roots, and The Decemberists.

Wilco are currently planning to play one song at the end of the show, but I'm sure at least Tweedy will sit down for a brief interview with Colbert about the concerts they have been playing in support of presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

Wilco's next stop will be to play a free concert at another Obama rally this Saturday in Wisconsin.

Wilco Seeking to Inspire the Vote

The sweet Wilco/Fleet Foxes cover of Dylan's "I Shall be Released", as reported earlier this month here, is being being released for free download. All you have to do is pledge to vote in the upcoming U.S. election. We aren't sure how our international friends are supposed to get a hold of the track, though. If you are planning on voting, Just head on over to Wilco World.

In other Wilco news, the band is planning to head into the studio in October to start work on a new album. They still have dates scheduled on their current tour through December 16.

Wilco/Fleet Foxes Cover Dylan

During a recent tour stop in Spokane, Washington, Wilco and Fleet Foxes collaborated on a cover of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released".

With both bands huddled around mics for the chorus, Nels Cline strumming away, and Jeff Tweedy belting out his best Dylan, we couldn't help but notice Wilco's fascination with the 'troubadour of consciousness'. The October 2007 release of the I"m Not There OST contained a track list of all Dylan covers from some of the most credible names in the music industry, for example: Eddie Vedder, Sonic Youth, Jim James, Calexico, Stephen Malkmus, Cat Power, Yo La Tengo, Iron & Wine, Karen O, Mason Jennings, Willie Nelson, Sufjan Stevens, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jack Johnson, The Black Keys, and The Band, to name a few. Other contributions to the album were "All Along the Watchtower" and "Ballad of a Thin Man" from Wilco lead guitarist Nels Cline, featured with the Million Dollar Bashers (a backing supergroup also featuring Sonic Youth stars Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley, Television guitarist Tom Verlaine, Dylan bassist Tony Garnier, guitarist Smokey Hormel and keyboardist John Medeski), and an excellent cover of "A Simple Twist of Fate" by Wilco lead singer Jeff Tweedy.

Dylan is currently working on a project that sets some of Hank Williams's "lost" lyrics to music, similar to the one undertaken by Billy Bragg and Wilco with Woody Guthrie's unaccompanied lyrics on Mermaid Avenue.
