Sasquatch > Bonnaroo?

I can guarantee one thing: Sasquatch will not pull a Langerado.

A handful of big names overlap with Bonnaroo, but that's not a bad thing considering how far apart they are from each other: Sasquatch is in Washington state and Bonnaroo (lineup) is in Tennessee. Both still have more artists to add, but already it seems like both are upgraded from last year. I don't think Bonnaroo can be called a jam band festival anymore, but it's a wee bit more chill than its intensely indie counterpart. West Coast, start rounding up the troops.

Bonnaroo Announces 2009 Initial Lineup

The king of summer festivals is back on the beautiful 700-acre Manchester farm in June (11th-14th), and the announcement of (some of) the performers came this morning.

The lineup is packed full of big names and great accompanying artists. Metallica and Kanye are gone this year (YES!), and Phish is bringing back Bonnaroo as a jam band festival, doing two shows over the four days. It could use a dosage of hip-hop though, so hopefully that comes with the next announcement (last year I got front row for Lupe Fiasco and Talib Kweli followed - needless to say it was a highlight of the festival). Other than that, the lineup is spectacular. We'll let you know when more artists get announced.

See the whole thing at bonnaroo.com. Tickets go on sale Feb. 7. The first wave sold out already (before the artists were even announced), so the next price level is $234.50, then $249.50 once those sell out.

None of these picks are mind-blowing if you've been keeping up with their record reviews over the past year, so as far as consistency goes, and as a whole, they do a decent job. But a handful of picks seem kinda crazy to me: New Age at #3 (it's good but not that good), Cut Copy at #4 (same deal), and most obviously Kanye at #21 (completely undeserved... it's his worst record to date and even the explanation is weak).

TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe Has Solo 7″ On The Way

TV On The Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe has more coming amidst his band's Dear Science tour and those surprising supergroup plans. Fake Male Voice, Tunde's just-announced solo project is coming your way December 23 in the form of a 7"/DVD combo.

The 7" picture disc has two tracks, "Cou Cou Sous Les Nuages" and "OMG!!!FMV!!!", the latter being described after translation as a "thrilled song which his sexier soulful voice is mixed with orchestral, 80's visual, even dance music."

On the accompanying DVD you'll find music videos Tunde made for both songs, plus one for a third song "Lone Sum Humm" which has a "beautiful chorus and interesting visual story explored by a toy bat."

Oh, and did you hear about Tunde's acting debut? Man this guy keeps busy.

TVOTR’s Adebimpe, Faith No More’s Mike Patton, Subtle’s Doseone Begin Side Project

Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio, Adam "Doseone" Drucker of Subtle, and Mike Patton of Faith No More/Peeping Tom/Tomahawk have some crazy news to deliver: they are all making music together!

We have no idea where this project will go, considering the unique vocal styles of all three, but we do know "[the] project...will congeal toward the end of the year. It came from an idea that Adam had, to have the three of us just, basically, mess around vocally and see what comes of it," said Adebimpe.

Not much info other than that, but we'll keep you updated.

If you haven't been keeping up with these guys, TVOTR's Dear Science is out now, and are about to begin their tour. Subtle just put out a new remix record , and Mike Patton is is co-curating the Nightmare Before Christmas event with The Melvins.

Kyp and Tunde hop into the main character's monochrome world, helping him go from "drowning butterflies" to "breeding" them.

Dear Science comes out tomorrow, but here's an early treat. "Golden Age" has been out for a couple weeks now, but the video is interesting and worth a watch for TVOTR fans.

The band is set atop one of many cloud-reaching plateaus, along with 5 cops on another. After a few gifts from the heavens and some transfor-mu-tations, things get happy, orchestral, and even more hallucinatory. However weird it sounds, it actually adds some depth to the song however you decide to interpret it.

Another TV On The Radio Track Streaming – “Dancing Choose”

Building up some momentum for their September 23 release of Dear Science, TVOTR now has "Dancing Choose" streaming at MOG.com (notice the pun). The song has a good steady build up with saxophones, horns, all the bells & whistles you're used to, but it ends on a really.. weird note. It just stops.
