The Strokes’ singer took the first single off his new solo album Phrazes For The Young to Conan last night.  I haven’t heard the album yet, but I’m glad he didn’t play the other single that’s floating around, “River of Brakelights”… not nearly as good imo.

Phrazes is out 11/3 in the US. Here’s the cover:

The user ByteMe on rateyourmusic.com has compiled a list of band name origins. It’s far from comprehensive but it covers a wide spectrum of bands, new and old, so you’re sure to find a bunch that you know. And hey, maybe you’ll be turned on to some just based on how they got their name!

Julian is now the fourth Stroke to record a solo project. The album, Phrazes for the Young, is due this fall from Casablancas’ own Cult Records via RCA in the U.S. and Europe and Rough Trade in the UK.

So despite the legal problems surrounding the release of Dangermouse and Sparklehorse Present: Dark Night of the Soul, the album was recently leaked.

NME, in order to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the formation of The Strokes, put the band on the cover of their weekly magazine and put all sorts of goodies on their website over the weekend.
