The Do-Over is a summertime party in L.A. founded by Aloe Blacc, Stones Throw behind-the-scenes architect Jamie Strong & Chris Haycock featuring a who's who of mystery guests. The renown party now comes to life in the form of a Limited 10-inch record series featuring exclusive tracks from guests of the party. Each volume is limited to 1,000 copies, featuring deluxe artwork/packaging by a different graphic designer.

Volume 1 offers up two neck snapping bangers courtesy of Flying Lotus (Warp/Brainfeeder) & House Shoes (debut release) in this LA vs Detroit beatdown.

Mad Decent’s FREE GUCCI Mixtape

Presented by Diplo's Mad Decent label, Free Gucci is a 15-track remix CD of the recently re-jailed Gucci Mane. It features Flying Lotus, Memory Tapes, SALEM, and Brodinski among others, remixing tracks from Gucci's "Cold War" mixtape series. As can be expected with any mixtape, there are some disappointments (in the Flying Lotus track especially), but as a whole it's a must-have if you like any of the above musicians.

As with most abstract music, it takes a certain kind of mindset and environment for it to be enjoyed to the fullest... relaxed, forward-thinking, meditative, open-minded. If you're stressed or mad, it goes to waste because you're taking something that can be interpreted many ways and shining it in negative light. In those cases it's worth throwing on some heavier music to get it out of your system. But I'm at my beach house right now, and if you're feeling at all like me, FlyLo has the perfect tunes: creative, fascinating, curiously emanating.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone
as we’re approaching this new year, I felt it was time to let go of some things that have been gathering dust. Some old things, and some new things, I tried to pick out tracks that I know yall haven’t heard yet so there should be surprises around every turn.

can’t believe i’ve been making tracks for over 10 years now..That said, there’s so much to learn still.

I hope you all enjoy this mix. Thanks to the Gaslamp Killer for doing an incredible job on this.

Can’t wait for you all to hear my album ‘Cosmogramma’ coming out April 20th 2010 on Warp Records.

Narrows / Mixleech 0 Tracklist

So I'm going to start promoting a lot more lesser known bands. Major labels are just pissing me off. I was ready to post the first musicleech playlist like two weeks ago (tracklist below), but a bunch of the songs on there were from major label bands and I'm not trying to get sued so I asked them if I could include their songs on my mix and like none of them responded (it's been two weeks)...

So... I'm not going to waste my time. I'm going to start posting mixes on here, with bands that actually need promotion, and that want it. Give me a week or so to put another one together, but here's the tracklist to what was going to be the first mixleech (with links to the bands that actually took the two seconds it takes to respond):

I spent a decent amount of time on this mix, so as is implied I highly recommend it. So if you have the time/money to download/buy the tracks and play them in order, do it! Shit is off the hook imo.

On a more relaxed note, check out this band Narrows I came across interestingly from one of the band member's Flickr. They have four songs up on their MySpace, and they're all pretty good. Rag on me for saying this, but they are pretty standard indie rock-- I don't know how else to quickly describe it!

In celebration of Flying Lotus’s birthday, ArtDontSleep put together another heavy impromptu jam session in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. This 30 minute take from the jam session features some heavy hitter producers and musicians, including Flying Lotus himself, Exile, Shafiq Husayn (SA-RA), Stephen ‘Thundercat’ Bruner (Erykah Badu, SA-RA), Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Suite for Ma Dukes), Computer Jay (Master Blazter) and many others.

Also, many of these cats will be featured on the upcoming CMJ Showcase on October 21st at Crash Mansion. Homeboy Deluge will be attending and might keep you guys up to date about what’s poppin’ in NY. Check out the sick line-up on the flyer. From all these musicians to you, enjoy the joint entitled “Happy Birthday, Flying Lotus”.

The Hyperdub label, home to many great artists in the dubstep scene, is releasing a compilation to celebrate it's fifth year. It's entitled 5: 5 Years of Hyperdub and is out Oct. 19 in the UK and the following day in the States. Lineup: 2009 All Points West Festival

A bunch of big names are slated to play the second All Points West Music & Arts Festival in New Jersey the last weekend in July. Lineup is below.

Tickets go on sale this Friday (4/4) at noon via Ticketmaster. They are $89 for a single day ticket and $199 for a three-day pass.

A new addition this year is the option of rail and boat transportation in addition to the popular ferry service that arrives at Liberty State Park from lower Manhattan. More travel info here.

Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2008

None of these picks are mind-blowing if you've been keeping up with their record reviews over the past year, so as far as consistency goes, and as a whole, they do a decent job. But a handful of picks seem kinda crazy to me: New Age at #3 (it's good but not that good), Cut Copy at #4 (same deal), and most obviously Kanye at #21 (completely undeserved... it's his worst record to date and even the explanation is weak).
