The Do-Over is a summertime party in L.A. founded by Aloe Blacc, Stones Throw behind-the-scenes architect Jamie Strong & Chris Haycock featuring a who’s who of mystery guests. Mad Decent’s FREE GUCCI Mixtape

Presented by Diplo’s Mad Decent label, Free Gucci is a 15-track remix CD of the recently re-jailed Gucci Mane. It features Flying Lotus, Memory Tapes, SALEM, and Brodinski among others, remixing tracks from Gucci’s “Cold War” mixtape series. As can be expected with any mixtape, there are some disappointments (in the Flying Lotus track especially), but as a whole it’s a must-have if you like any of the above musicians.

mp3: ‘A Decade Of Flying Lotus’ Mixed by The Gaslamp Killer

As with most abstract music, it takes a certain kind of mindset and environment for it to be enjoyed to the fullest… relaxed, forward-thinking, meditative, open-minded. Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2008

None of these picks are mind-blowing if you’ve been keeping up with their record reviews over the past year, so as far as consistency goes, and as a whole, they do a decent job. But a handful of picks seem kinda crazy to me: New Age at #3 (it’s good but not that good), Cut [...]
