Having already taken on The Velvet Underground & Nico and Songs of Leonard Cohen, Becks most recent project is to redo Skip Spence's Oar. For this session, he invited Feist and members of Wilco to help perform a new version of "Weighted Down". Have you ever seen Nasty Nels Cline shred on an acoustic guitar? Not sure if we have ever seen such a great combination of artists for a compilation. Have a look below at the track list if you haven't already. Sufjan's ten minute trip fest? Bon Iver singing falsetto over electric guitar? Ben Gibbard with Feist? Dirty Projectors with David Byrne? Grizzly Bear and Feist? There are some interesting match-ups and from what we have heard of the album so far, the artists aren't just treating this like some small charity deal, the songs are much better than would be expected for these kind of things.

We decided to scour the internet and find links to as many of the songs on the compilation so you can have a listen yourself. Please comment if you stumble across a broken link or if you have one that we are missing.

If you decide you like the album and would like support a really worthwhile cause, head on over to 4AD's website and pre-order the album. The compilation hits stores on 16th February '09 (17th in North America).

Among other things, the crew discuss writing lyrics on walls, Milwuakee's Beast, the technique where Vernon tests out the vocal lines as sounds before choosing lyrics, his dad's influence on living in the wilderness in seclusion, hanging out for a little but in Australia before going back into the studio, and the possibility of appearing on sesame street.

Red Hot, "an international charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for HIV and AIDS through popular culture" is releasing Dark Was The Night, a forthcoming (and can I say POWERHOUSE) thirty-one track album that is out February 17 via 4AD. It'll be available as a double CD, triple vinyl, or download, and all the proceeds go to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Every day until 2/1 a new track will stream on the DWTN MySpace, so make sure to add it to your Morning Coffee! Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National take reign as co-producers, and their track is the daily feature.

Now that we have the album logistics out of the way, let's revel in the goodness of this new version of "Train Song", played by Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard and former Broken Social Scene member Feist! They pull off the duet flawlessly, with Feist as usual giving a stellar vocal performance - I'm sure Zooey is jealous..

If you saw her interview with Pitchfork back in May, you might have gotten that feeling.

Speaking to the Canadian Press, she said: "[My career] has become kind of large and it really began for me very, very small, like me alone in my bedroom with my four-track and a pair of headphones. I just need to go back there for a while to get my bearings again and then know what to do next."

Luckily this break doesn't seem permanent, but she has also announced that she has no further plans to collaborate with her Canadian up-start band, Broken Social Scene. "It's not really as interesting for me as it once was," she said. "[It] would be like a reunion to be able to hang out with everyone -- but I can do that around a kitchen table."
