Stream: St. Etienne - "Spring" (Air France remix)

The original song is from St. Etienne's 1991 LP Foxbase Alpha which has just been reissued in its original form and also reproduced by Richard X, who's known for producing for Annie and M.I.A.. You can read more about his version Foxbase Beta here, or if you want to cut to the chase here's the Rough Trade purchase page (where you can stream three songs from it).

For those of you unfamiliar with these bands, Air France is a relatively new Swedish electronic group who jolted the scene with their summery No Way Down EP last year, and St. Etienne is a British dream pop group from the 90's.

But a handful of picks seem kinda crazy to me: New Age at #3 (it's good but not that good), Cut Copy at #4 (same deal), and most obviously Kanye at #21 (completely undeserved... it's his worst record to date and even the explanation is weak).

Fleet Foxes didn't surprise me at #1 but I don't think you can say they made the best record of year; rather, they came from the middle of nowhere, delivered a collection of excellent songs, and had the best year out of any bands on this list.
