A few weeks ago we saw the unofficial version (which actually held it's own), but here's the proper:

Rockin' a stylish Davy Crockett hat (???), Q-Tip hits us with the first track off his upcoming The Renaissance, his first (released) solo album since 1999's Amplified (he recorded an album in 2002 that was never released).

It's got just the kind of sound you'd expect: a laid-back groovy bass line paired with an adventurous piano melody, and background vocals singing the catchy "Gettin' up". Q-Tip raps about life's good memories but mostly about his wife.

There were no correct lyrics I could find on the net, so I fixed up the ones from lyricsreg.com:
Q-Tip - "Gettin' Up" Lyrics

Sent you a message, sent you an e-mail
Hasty decisions we may still prevail
Both needed breaks, we both needed to bail
Walking through the corridors of my mind
The hideaways, the nooks, and things with good times
Memories certainly yes they still bind
Still a common man and yeah that's for sure
Still a bankroll and yeah still can tour
The madness, the thing we had was much more
Come back home, don't be out in the world
It's a rat race and always for a girl
And most scavengers have found the pretty pearl
It's for the faint of heart who never get enough
Gotta get tough, buckle 'em up, we call 'em duds
And we, and we and we ahhh

We gotta gettin' up
We gotta gettin' up
Today is nice come on and yeah we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Tonight is right come on we gon' gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up

Come over here baby, don't look so grumpy
This kind of lifestyle could be so comfy
We can start a clan just like the Kennedy's
You and I advance, certainly we can expand
Feelings that should never end
You respect me like a friend
But love me like your man
No other could contend
Or we could be like Doves exposed to history
Like staying with each other with truth and chivalry
The things we go through they shape our identity
Yes pretty let's do this all night
Consummate this thing and make it alright
And when we cuddle up and promise that alright

We need to gettin' up
Gettin' up
Today is nice come on and yo we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Tonight is right come on we gon' gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up

I like to watch everybody gravitate towards you
Your magnetic presence make them come through
The same way you got them you got me too
Now look at our lives they're so colorful
A wonderful spectrum, not one tone dull
Full of excitement and not one lull
See we had an understanding, oh yes we did
I'm bringing it back, I'm puttin' in my bid
Have a couple of kids, and have a couple of cribs
We like Louie D and ????? like Martin and Corretta
Doin' it to death, noone can do it better
When we leave our physical our sprits still together
Come on now, here's a placement for your hand
You rockin' with the #1 MC man
The #1 controller of right with the plan

Gettin' up
Gettin' up
Today is nice come on and yeah we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Said we gettin' up
Tonight is right come on we gon' gettin' up
Said we gettin' up

At the recent Rock The Bells rap/hip-hop festival, Q-Tip rocked the stage with some new jams off his upcoming album The Renaissance, which is due out 11/14.

The song is called "Gettin' Up". A few weeks ago rumors began buzzing about it and now it's yours in full form. Check it out:

Q-Tip with Mos Def - "Gettin' Up"

The video is unofficial. The audio is from the studio and good quality, and the video is live from one of Tip's Rock the Bells shows. Adds a nice little touch if you ask me.

According to Q-Tip, the brilliant hip-hop revolutionaries A Tribe Called Quest will never record another album. The news is a bit surprising, considering their recent appearance headlining the Rock The Bells concert series.

"It will never, ever happen,” Q said. “We don't want to be one of those groups that comes back 15 years later and puts out an album that's not that good. It's why the Beatles never got back together."

Kinda seems like he's undermining their creative minds, like they have exhausted their ideas to transform hip-hop. Although everyone and their mother knows Tribe's discography is the shit, wouldn't you think that if they were that good, they would be confident in making new stuff?

...Puzzles me in a way, but it is definitely understandable. Tip is right, it happens a lot when a quality group reunites, and releases, well, just average material.

So, while it is disappointing Tribe is done, you can at least assure yourself that their spot in history is locked in as arguably the best hip-hop group ever. If only they kept it going.. (ahh such sad works to speak)

[via Vibe]
