Jay-Z

The Flaming Lips

The Dead Weather

Damian Marley & Nas

LCD Soundsystem

The Melvins

Isis (day or night set?)

Dan Deacon Ensemble

The Dodos

Neon Indian

Bonus! Bands that don't deserve to be at Bonnaroo:

Kings of Leon

OK Go

Rise Against

They Might Be Giants (just take my word for it, or listen to this terrible song if you don't believe me)

The Bonnaroo lineup is still a week away from being announced, but you just read the early surprise. The Flaming Lips will play a 'regular' set at the midnight slot on Thursday, then at 2:30 a.m. will play DSOTM. If the words 'Flaming Lips' and 'Dark Side of the Moon' surprised you in the same sentence, you must not know that they released it as an album back in December with Stardeath and White Dwarfs.

The last time the Flaming Lips played Bonnaroo was 2007, THE YEAR BEFORE I STARTED GOING. Well, here's for redemption. Hopefully I'll go back this year, but I'm highly considering hitting up some other weekend festivals like the free Siren festival in N.Y.

As always though, the lineup will make or break the decision, but Bonnaroo is pre-tty darn consistent so I don't think I'll be disappointed...

I saw a decent amount of their set at Bonnaroo two years ago, and I have to say they are great live. I had to leave early so I could be front row for Lupe and Talib though (which happened! I have pics to prove it... give me a few days to upload them, they are on my other computer). Anyway, Pearl Jam was crazy. There had to be like 60,000 people there because they were the only performers scheduled at that time slot of 9-12. And they played for all three hours. So legit!

Guitarist/singer Avey Tare had the following to say about it: "It's kinda like a psychedelic film , it's not like a narrative film or anything... There are more cohesive moments in it, but then there are some that are a little more abstract."

"We tried to make the music go along with the visuals as much as possible... We didn't want it to sound just like a soundtrack, but then we didn't want it to be like a music video either."

As usual, the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is going down the second weekend of June in Manchester, TN and although it's way too early for any artist announcements, they've decided to put up their pre-sale early for the holidays: 11/27 at noon. if you are pretty sure you're going to go, I highly recommend buying your ticket early. If you can't go, you can always sell your ticket on eBay. They usually sell for face value right around the time of the festival.

No info on prices yet, so just mark your calendars and head over to Bonnaroo.com that afternoon.

The hip-hop beat that kicks off the album opener "West Coast" sets an optimistic tone, and despite how much the sound might veer from that (not too often), the feeling that track brings permeates throughout the record.

As you'd expect from a samples-only album, it's jumpy. He sometimes throws in unexpected breaks that seem like they are there just to mess with you. But even despite these moments and the album's quick pace, it flows in a curious way. You might not think so just after one listen but this album begs to be replayed. After two or three listens I'm sure you'll agree with me.

The EP is available at Illegal Art in a pay-what-you-want format.

Here's that hip-hoppish opener "West Coast":
Yes, they are taking a break right now, but he said you could compare it to a "winter vacation". No word on when they plan on getting new material together or heading to the studio, but at least we know it shouldn't be too long till we get some more amazing jams from these guys.
