Out Now: RJD2 – The Colossus
| by Mark Jackson on January 21st, 2010 |
I had one of the hardest decisions of my life to make last Saturday. My boys the Baltimore Ravens had their playoff game against the Colts, kickoff time 8:15. Simultaneously, RJD2 was in town, playing a show slated to start at 8.
It was 7:00 and I already bought my ticket, so if I wanted to watch the game, I'd have to bike about two miles through the rain (which wasn't coming down softly), sell the ticket, and bike back. Or I could just let the ticket go unused, but I wasn't about to let that happen since I had an hour and fifteen minutes before game time. So what to do, what to do, what to do.
The Ravens had had a crazy season, looking like they were done starting the second half of the season, but they weren't about to give up and what do you know they slipped in a wild card spot, ahead of the Steelers I can happily say. But we had to face the Colts, led by Peyton Ganning, who we can never ever beat. Earlier in the season we lost to them 17-15 in the waning minutes of the game by a couple strands of... I'll just say stupidity. Flacco threw a ridiculous pass that was intercepted and Ed Reed fumbled an interception (I didn't see those last few minutes of the game cause I had a soccer game to play, but that's unrelated).
So there was no doubt in my mind this was going to be a good game. Two Superbowl-caliber teams battling it out to see who was going to the AFC Championship. So... my decision was between my favorite sports team or one of my favorite DJ's. Guess what I did.
Stuck with the team that I love so dearly. And what do you know, they lost to the freaking Golts. 20-3. It was closer than it looks on paper, but man was that depressing. Missing out on a great concert to watch your team get kicked out of the playoffs. But hey, if I had to make the same decision again I would probably do the same thing. Better luck next time.
Now after that depressing story, there is thankfully some good that is to come:
The Colossus is out! It's RJ's 4th solo album, and it's pretty solid although it's definitely not his best stuff. He doesn't pull any massive tricks out of his sleeve, but that was never his style. He puts out jams that you can throw on at any time of the day while in any mood and be satisfied. Here's an example, the second track on the disc that is one of my favorites. Enjoy, and make sure to check out his other stuff if you like this!
