The xx Bring “Crystalised” to Carson
| by Rad Parker on December 14th, 2009 |
The xx finally made their US television debut on Last Call with Carson Daly last night. If you haven't heard of this group, you haven't heard one of the best albums of the year. Rolling Stone has hilariously described their sound as "booty-call music for the indie-rock set". This coming from a group that just denied Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear entry into their top 100 albums of the decade, so they obviously know indie rock. Man, I have never seen a magazine lose so much credibility so fast. The xx was formed in London in 2005 by a couple of twenty year-olds that had known each other since preschool. I remember reading an interview where the two lead vocalists said that they were initially afraid to sing to each other, but eventually decided to start singing at the same time. Boy, are we glad they did. Here is the first performance I have seen of the band sans their keyboardist who left the tour due to exhaustion:
And in case you haven't seen them with their keyboardist, here is their set on Jools:
And here is an amazing acoustic performance of "Crystalised" in the ever-famous Behind Closed Doors video project:
