Deftones news recap + “Rocket Skates” Live

For being one of my favorite bands, I really don't post deftones stuff that much. Part of the reason is that they don't release new material that often, and the other part sadly is that bassist Chi Cheng has been in a coma for about a year now after being in a bad car accident. Apparently he is out of serious condition though and has been able to walk around, but that is not confirmed.

After releasing several amazing nu-metal albums in the '90s and 2000's (and facing a near break-up in 2005), the deftones veered towards a more electronic, carefully produced sound with their 2006 album Saturday Night Wrist. And after touring in support of it, they went back into the studio to record Eros, an album which was scheduled for an October 2009 release. Chino described it as "weird",  sounding most like their platinum 2000 album White Pony, but then Chi got in the crash and since then the band has announced that they're working on a new album.

Eros is still awaiting a release date (the band claims it is not because of Chi's condition), but it should be out eventually.

Here's a track that they've played a few times live that everyone supposes will be on Eros. It's called "Rocket Skates" and like all Deftones songs, make sure you're on edge of your seat.

A charity auction is being held online for Chi featuring some brilliant portraits, so head over to CharityBuzz.com/BenefitforChi to check everything out. Another batch of items will be posted on Tuesday.
