The Notwist – “Boneless” (Grizzly Bear remix)

by Mark Jackson on November 30th, 2009

I was happy enough to see Grizzly Bear and The Notwist in the same sentence, and then I saw that it was a remix for “Boneless”, my favorite song off their latest album The Devil, You + Me. The original single + Panda Bear remix came out over a year ago but I don’t think fans of either band will mind the delay.

Eastern Approaches

by Mark Jackson on November 25th, 2009

This Californian post-rock quintet changed their name to Memory Engine earlier in the year and disbanded soon after, but as with all (released) music their legacy lives on! Their debut EP is a little over a year old, and despite the amateur production I’m sure it got, dang it sounds good. You can get it for [...]

Portugal. The Man – “Do You” Music Video

by Mark Jackson on November 23rd, 2009

This is one of those bands where it doesn’t matter where in their discography you start because all their music is pretty similar (and really good!). Their newest album The Satanic Satanist is a nice progression for them, their latest two albums being my favorites. They’ve slowly gained a fanbase, earning a show at Bonnaroo [...]

Nightmares on Wax – “Da Mess Sticks”

by Mark Jackson on November 22nd, 2009

Here’s an older track from Warp veteran Nightmares on Wax aka DJ EASE. The 2006 7″ single Flip Ya Lid came with this track as the b-side. It’s a downtempo/chill-out tune with some real nice bongos or something as the propeller.

The Blakroc Sessions

by Mark Jackson on November 21st, 2009

While The Black Keys and 11 hip-hop artists put together their dream collab album Blakroc, someone was taking video of it all. The footage has been edited to form ten webisodes that were released periodically.

Deftones news recap + “Rocket Skates” Live

by Mark Jackson on November 20th, 2009

For being one of my favorite bands, I really don’t post deftones stuff that much. Part of the reason is that they don’t release new material that often, and the other part sadly is that bassist Chi Cheng has been in a coma for about a year now after being in a bad car accident. [...]

DJ Shares – The Knife “Heartbeats” vs. Jay-Z & Rihanna “Run This Town”

by Mark Jackson on November 19th, 2009

This is the first I’ve heard from DJ Shares who resides in Denver/Boulder CO. This isn’t by any means the slickest or surprising remix in the world, but for once I think you can judge a song by it’s title. It gets a little sketchy at points, in the chorus especially as it doesn’t match [...]

Bonnaroo holiday pre-sale information

by Mark Jackson on November 19th, 2009

As usual, the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is going down the second weekend of June in Manchester, TN and although it’s way too early for any artist announcements, they’ve decided to put up their pre-sale early for the holidays: 11/27 at noon. if you are pretty sure you’re going to go, I highly recommend [...]

Beak>

by Mark Jackson on November 18th, 2009

After it took Portishead ten years to make their third album, their output is picking up at a rapidly. Geoff Barrow hooked up with Billy Fuller and Matt Williams to form the band Beak>, and their debut album is pretty awesome. It’s got some Deerhunter aesthetic to it in the drums and bass (“I Know” [...]
