Fever Ray’s Halloween Mix

by Mark Jackson on October 26th, 2009

Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife has put together a spooky mix for the holiday season, and it’s available for free as an mp3 here. It’s funny because this was meant to have a dark feel, yet her solo album she released back in January sounds arguably even darker. I’m going to take a wild [...]

DJ Shadow – What I Do In My Bedroom EPs

by Mark Jackson on October 25th, 2009

A friend showed me volume one of this unreleased three-piece series, and I have to say both sides of the disc are simply fantastic. I don’t know about volumes two or three, but the first is a funk mix, with a Spanish thing starting up in the second side. Very listenable, as is Shadow’s stuff [...]

Bon Iver & St. Vincent – “Roslyn”

by Mark Jackson on October 23rd, 2009

Here’s another impressive cut off the New Moon soundtrack. It sounds a lot more like a Bon Iver song than it does a St. Vincent one on many levels: the lyrics, the slow pace, and lack of drums among other things. And the vocals blend like you wouldn’t believe.

The Drums – “Let’s Go Surfing”

by Mark Jackson on October 20th, 2009

This song’s out of season for me since it’s getting chilly in the morning and there’s not a beach nearby, but hopefully for some of you that’s not the case. “Let’s Go Surfing”, the band’s new single, is available for download at RCRD LBL along with four remixes. The original is the obvious favorite, but [...]

Rumor Slash: Deerhunter Hiatus

by Mark Jackson on October 18th, 2009

One of my friends spoke to Bradford Cox (aka Atlas Sound) during that Kia Soul Collective weekend (pics here), and the hiatus Cox spoke of at ATP shouldn’t be too frustrating if you’re a Deerhunter fan. Yes, they are taking a break right now, but he said you could compare it to a “winter vacation”. [...]

Check it all out at My Old Kentucky Blog, which is known for it’s weekly show on Sirius XM radio.

Lupe Fiasco & Japanese Cartoon – “Solar Midnite”

by Mark Jackson on October 18th, 2009

Here’s a track from the buzzed-about New Moon soundtrack, supposedly a bonus one, as it doesn’t appear on the original tracklist (see below). Japanese Cartoon is a band on Lupe’s label that we posted on a while back, back when rumors were flying that Lupe was the lead singer of the band. They collaborate on [...]

Narrows / Mixleech 0 Tracklist

by Mark Jackson on October 18th, 2009

So I’m going to start promoting a lot more lesser known bands. Major labels are just pissing me off. I was ready to post the first musicleech playlist like two weeks ago (tracklist below), but a bunch of the songs on there were from major label bands and I’m not trying to get sued so [...]

mp3: “Happy Birthday, Flying Lotus”

by Mark Jackson on October 17th, 2009

In celebration of Flying Lotus’s birthday, ArtDontSleep put together another heavy impromptu jam session in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. This 30 minute take from the jam session features some heavy hitter producers and musicians, including Flying Lotus himself, Exile, Shafiq Husayn (SA-RA), Stephen ‘Thundercat’ Bruner (Erykah Badu, SA-RA), Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Suite for [...]
