It’s Blitz! Stream YYY’s “Zero”, “Heads Will Roll”, Others

by Mark Jackson on February 25th, 2009

Change has come in the YYY world. Nick Zinner subdues his punk-pop guitar licks to accommodate the band’s (temporary, I think) new synthesizer fad. “Zero” is a perfect example of the new sound: it rocks pretty hard, but in a much different way than Fever To Tell and Show Your Bones did. Besides the heavy [...]

Sasquatch > Bonnaroo?

by Mark Jackson on February 24th, 2009

I can guarantee one thing: Sasquatch will not pull a Langerado.
A handful of big names overlap with Bonnaroo, but that’s not a bad thing considering how far apart they are from each other: Sasquatch is in Washington state and Bonnaroo (lineup) is in Tennessee. Both still have more artists to add, but already it seems [...]

Don’t Be A Jerk

by trigatch4 on February 20th, 2009

QFT from BoingBoingGadgets:

Printing stickers that say “Available Online For Free” and then pasting them to real-world merchandise that will have to be removed by retail workers convinces no one of an argument they already know. This is not how you usher in a new age of sharing. It’s just being a prick.
And to think a [...]

Dan Auerbach: “My Last Mistake” (Live on Conan O’Brien)

by Mark Jackson on February 17th, 2009

After seven albums, the Black Keys guitarist/singer has strayed away from his drummer Patrick Carney (at least for an album) - his solo debut Keep It Hid just came out last week via Nonesuch. If you’ve heard the Keys’ garage/blues-rock, Keep It Hid is more in the same realm. Needless to say, it’s pretty good.

Lil’ Wayne on ESPN (Around The Horn)

by Mark Jackson on February 12th, 2009

The man knows his shit.
More proof: his ESPN blog
Not proof, but dedication. (pun intended) (that song “SportsCenter” is on the Dedication 2 mixtape)

MP3: Lotus Plaza: “Whiteout” (LP Version)

by Mark Jackson on February 11th, 2009

“Red Oak Way” gave us a taste of Lockett Pundt’s new solo album The Floodlight Collective about a week ago, and now another new song has popped up: “Whiteout”. Well, a new version of it. An early demo of “Whiteout” was posted on the Deerhunter blog way back in August 2007.
It’s really spaced out (surprising, [...]

2009 Langerado Music Festival CANCELLED!

by Mark Jackson on February 3rd, 2009

The 2009 Langerado Music Festival has been cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales. Whether it was the ailing economy or the decision to move the festival to Miami and make it non-camping (I’m sure it was the latter), it’s a disappointment. These were the artists that were scheduled to perform.
Here’s what Langerado co-promoter Ethan Schwartz [...]

Bonnaroo Announces 2009 Initial Lineup

by Mark Jackson on February 3rd, 2009

The king of summer festivals is back on the beautiful 700-acre Manchester farm in June (11th-14th), and the announcement of (some of) the performers came this morning.
The lineup is packed full of big names and great accompanying artists. Metallica and Kanye are gone this year (YES!), and Phish is bringing back Bonnaroo as a jam [...]

New Flaming Lips from Shrooms Movie

by Rad Parker on February 2nd, 2009

From award-wining documentarian Ron Mann comes another film that delves into the backwaters of popular culture. This time, Mann joins forces with two of most well known people in the shrooming business, Gary Lincoff and Larry Evans, for Know Your Mushrooms. Together, they attempt to “lead us on a hunt for the wild mushroom and [...]
