Three New K-OS Tracks

by Mark Jackson on December 31st, 2008

It's easy to classify k-os as one of those "true" hip-hop artists (think Kweli) whose style and focus remain consistent in all the good ways, delivering quality tunes although not always exceptional. Based off these three new songs, I'm going in with high hopes for Yes!, his sixth full-length album due in March.

k-os - The Avenue (zShare link)
An organic laid back jam that would be the best of the three live, emphasising k-os's backing band.

k-os - Zambony (zShare link)
These next two are much more pieced together and electronic but offer whole new energies. Zambony is an obvious standout, starting from building drum beats atop apocalyptic-like chorus singers, with dark strings and k-os's imagery-strewn verses serving as perfect complements. The chorus brings a surprisingly clubbish/upbeat vibe, somehow managing to transition quite smoothly.

k-os - Astronaut (mp3)
Straight hip-hop with a schizophrenic musical feel: splattering trumpets, a robotic auto-tuned chorus, trippy percussion fills, much more. It gets catchy after a few listens.
