Could A Concert POSSIBLY Get ANY Worse Than This?

by Mark Jackson on November 21st, 2008

To begin with, let it be known that The Smashing Pumpkins' 20th Anniversary Tour is not really, at all, an anniversary tour. The band was split up for more than 7 of the 20 years and James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky announced a while back that they wouldn't take part in it. Zeitgeist was below average for Pumpkin's record, and the Pumpkins output has been fairly slow as of late. Is this an extraordinary exciting time for the Pumpkins? Not really, and this video fuels pure unexcitement.

At the tour's most recent Chicago stop, Corgan rudely, irrationally, pointlessly, idiotically, and immaturely lashed out against his fans (of all people!), asking rhetorically why Smashing Pumpkins fans don't like the Smashing Pumpkins anymore (note this is amidst "We love you Billy!" cheers and comments of the like). Who exactly are you addressing Billy? Regardless of how many fans you're losing or whatever, the people showing up to your concert obviously like you. Sometimes crowds are disappointing, but it's almost never worth it to halt a concert because of it. Unless you're Nickelback.
